Glynn Elliot Avant,  78, Mt. Juliet, died April 20. 

Avant was the son of the late Tommy and Thelma Kelly Avant. He was also preceded in death by his step-son, Michael J. Morris and grandson, Derrick Levi Avant.

He is survived by: son, Steve (Margaret) Avant; grandchildren, Chrisi, Jacey Glynn, Sabrina, Delbert, Leon and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Zaiden, Dax Anthony, Layton, Gavin, Zachary, Kensey and Heather.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Bond Memorial Chapel.

Franklin Eugene Nichols, 84, Mt. Juliet, died April 18. 

Nichols was a member of Hickory Hills Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Nichols was employed by Firestone for 29 years and Southeastern Quilting Company for 13 years. He was the son of the late, Rora and Dona Miller Nichols. Mr. Nichols was also preceded in death by 7 siblings.

He is survived by: wife of 62 years, Thelma L. Witte Nichols; sons, David E. Nichols and Ronald D. (Lori) Nichols; grandchildren, Cody Nichols, Benjamin Nichols and Crystal Dawn Nichols.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 22 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jeff Whitener officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Mattie Lou Dunn Preston, 90, Mt. Juliet, died April 21.

Preston was a member of Pathway Church of God. She was the daughter of the late James and Bessie Dunn. Mrs. Preston was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar B. Preston; daughter, Frances “Sissy” Hurt and brother, James Dunn. 

She is survived by: children, Clyde (Mickie) Preston, Bill Preston, Betty (John) Brown, James Preston and Bobby (Sherrie) Preston; brother, Bobby Joe Dunn; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Pastor James Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be John Brown, Joel Childers, Casey Preston, Jason Sorey, Dave Humphreys, Doug Perry and Johnny Preston. Ray Hardy will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Carolyn Mae Seaborn, 69, Hermitage, died April 17. 

Seaborn was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was employed by Ford Glass Plant. Seaborn was the daughter of the late, Robert Deal and Mable Thompson Myers. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Billy Long and her sister, Edna Johnson.

She is survived by: husband of 45 years – Robert Earl Seaborn; son, Larry (Frances) Grammer; daughter, Teresa (Thomas Mitchell) Jackson; sisters, Gladys (Thomas) Furlow, Betty (Jeff) Parker and Rita Castleman; grandchildren, Robert Mann, Kevin Mann, Candace Grammer and Dale Mann; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Mann, Kylie Mann and Joseph Mann.

Funeral services were Monday, April 21 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Junior Mitchell officiating. Interment followed at Rutland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Mann, Kevin Mann, Dale Mann, Candace Grammer, Terry Furlow and David McCluskey.

Marion Oneida Shelnut, 89, Mt. Juliet, died April 16. 

Shelnut was a member of Center Chapel Church of Christ and a member of the Womens Business Association in the State of Arkansas. She worked at Arkansas State Hospital as a hairdresser and owned The Busy Bee Beauty Shop in Benton, Ark. After retiring, she volunteered at the Senior Adult Center in Benton before moving to Mt. Juliet in 2002. Shelnut was the daughter of the late, Emmett Johnson and Mary Coats Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Shelnut and Elmer Pennington; step-mother, Ida Pearl Johnson; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Hazel Ridgeway and Muriel Griffith and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Jean Shelnut; son, Jimmy Franklin Pennington

She is survived by: son, James Randall Shelnut; daughters, Mary Sue (Mike) Collins and Barbara (Allen) Graves; brother, Murry Franklin (Pat) Johnson; grandchildren, Bruce (Ginny) Smith, Dennis (Selena) Smith, Tim (Sherry) Graves, Greg (Terri) Graves, Mike (Sharon) Graves, Tanya Peters, Matt (Christy) Shelnut and Brandi (Adam) Storey; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 19, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Bro. Darrell Duncan and Bro. Andy Connelly officiating. Graveside services were Monday, April 21 at McPherson Cemetery in Sardis, Ark. with Pastor Scott Patton officiating. Active pallbearers were be Bruce Smith, Dennis Smith, Tim Graves, Greg Graves, Mike Graves, Matt Shelnut and Adam Storey. Honorary pallbearers were be Elders and Deacons of Center Chapel Church of Christ, Mike Collins, Bob Ramsey, Johnny Brown, Jim McDaniel, Jim Tomlin, Jared Tomlin, Joe Graves and Larry Graves.
