Ernest Wayne Bates, 69, Lebanon, died Nov. 9. 

Bates retired from AVCO in 2001. He was a member of McWhirtersville Masonic Lodge No. 375 F&AM and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Bates was an avid outdoorsman, animal lover and Alabama fan. He was the son of the late, Floyd and Myrtle Baker Bates.

He is survived by: wife of 39 years, Ann Bates; daughters, Melinda Bates (Stosh) Morency and Tricia Bates; brother, Tom (Vicki) Bates; grandchildren, Annmarie Morency and Zeke Morency

Graveside services with military honors will be conducted noon Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Palestine Cemetery in Hohenwald, TN with Hershel McFarland officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Whitt, Chris LeMay, Adam Coile, Ben Coile, Stosh Morency and Guiness Wales.

Debra Jean Fisher,  52, Mt. Juliet, died Nov. 1. 

Fisher was a member of Gladeville Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late, William H.D. and Mary Elizabeth Fulcher.

She is survived by: husband of 33 years, Wendell Fisher; daughter, Shania Fisher; brother, David (Lisa) Fulcher; nephew, Brandon Fulcher; mother-in-law, Mary Fisher.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Bond Memorial Chapel. Interment followed at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.

William Ray McBroom, DDS, Mt. Juliet, died Nov. 6 after a brief illness. 

Dr. McBroom was born Aug. 29, 1937 in Davidson County to the late, Bonell McBroom, Sr. and Pansy Drake McBroom. He earned his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry in 1962. He worked in public health is the state of Virginia for two years. He moved to Nashville in 1964 and worked in public health for several years before going into private practice on Nolensville Road, where he was assisted by his wife, Sandra for 35 years. He retired in 2007. Dr. McBroom enjoyed trains, duck hunting, conservation and doing God’s work. He was a member of Green Hill Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. Dr. McBroom was also a member of the Mid-South Live Steamers, Nashville Garden Railways and Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by: wife of 56 years, Sandra Butler McBroom; son and daughter-in-law, William Derek and Angela McBroom; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Dr. Terry Jackson; brothers, Bonell McBroom, Jr. and Donald McBroom; step-mother, Imodene McBroom; grandchildren, Chad McBroom, Stephanie McBroom, Brittany Jackson, and Dillan Jackson

Funeral services were. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Bond Memorial Chapel with August Ruff officiating. Interment followed at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Robert Evans, Houston Stanton, Pete McPherson, Homer Flatt, Johnny Cripps, Jeff Tuley, Sonny Drake and Bob Mays. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Carney, Glen Pardue, Scott Norman, Brian Rooley, Bob Brand and Kenneth Lawrence.

Steve Moore, 71, Old Hickory, passed away Nov. 7.

Steve was born July 12, 1943 in the Old Hickory Village to the late Cora Adair Moore.

A lifelong member of the Old Hickory community, he graduated from DuPont High School, attended Martin Methodist College, and worked at DuPont for 40 years. He was a member of Hermitage United Methodist Church, a loving husband, devoted father, and proud “Papa”.

He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Elaine Troxler Moore; daughters, Jennifer Moore Marshall (Trey) and Kristi Moore Nix (Taylor); grandchildren, Eli, Leah, Abby, and Will Marshall and Kaylee and Ginger Nix; and brother, Jim Moore (Shirley).

Visitation was at the Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, Hadley Chapel, 1700 Hadley Ave., Old Hickory Sunday, and prior to the service Monday.

Interment followed at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.

Betty J. Risner, 70, Nashville, died Thursday, Nov. 6, with her family by her side. 

Betty was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and attended Austin Peay State University. She began working for the State of Tennessee in 1964 when she was 20 years old, and served in the Labor Department, the FFA, the Education Department and ended her service with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, from which she retired in 1995. She met the love of her life, Larry, on July 4, 1964 and vowed that day to a friend that she had “met the man that she would marry.” They did indeed marry on March 26, 1965. Betty was the daughter of the late, Joe and Margie Guthrie Burlason. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Burlason, Jr. and Edward “Rocky” Burlason. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and Nana. 

She is survived by: husband of 49 years, Larry Risner; daughter, Beth (Rick) Benson; sister, Suzanne Gentry; brother, Donald (Gloria) Burlason; grandson, Kyle Benson.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 10, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ken Clayton officiating. Interment  followed at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Gideons International or the Wounded Warrior Project.
