Harold Lee Cassell, Sr., 70, Mt. Juliet, died Thursday, Feb. 21. 

Cassell was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as captain of the small bore competition rifle team. He was a member of the VFW and a life-long member of the NRA. Mr. Cassell was a pilot, a registered nurse and an expert marksman. He was the son of the late Alton Thurman and Grace Pauline Reeves Cassell. Mr. Cassell was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Cassell. 

He is survived by: wife of 45 years, Barbara Peeler Cassell; son, Hal (Cathy) Cassell; daughter, Leanne Malone; brothers, Jim (Nancy) Cassell and Robert (Julie) Cassell; sisters, Shelby Pewitt, Brenda (Bob) Taliaferro and Diane Stovall; grandchildren, Katie Malone and Sean Malone

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Rev. Andy Hale officiating. Entombment followed at Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum.

The family prefers that memorials be made to the Gideons International.

Thomas Leavitt Cheney, 80, Hermitage, died Saturday, Feb. 23. 

Cheney was a member of Central Christian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He started Vol State Insulation Company, a commercial and industrial insulation business, which he ran until his retirement in 1995.

He is survived by: wife of 56 years, Sara Nausley Cheney; children, Sara (Alton) McConnell, Tom (Cathy) Cheney, Jr., Dorothy Dailey and John (Connie) Cheney; grandchildren, Sara Van Effen, Jenea Johnson, Tom, Taylor, Trevor and Torrey Cheney and Becky, Katie and Grace Braswell; three great-grandchildren

Cryptside services were 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Jack Franklin Clariday,  84, Mt. Juliet, died Thursday, Feb. 21. 

Clariday was a member of Gateway Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and a recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Clariday was a member of the Mt. Juliet Senior Center, the Mt. Juliet Lions Club and was a member of the Donelson Kiwanis Club for over 40 years. Mr. Clariday was the owner of Plaza Barber Shop. He was the son of the late, Auther and Mary Gregory Clariday. 

Mr. Clariday was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ella Tillman Clariday; brothers, Billy and James Clariday and sisters, Jean Roddy and Nancy Smith.

He is survived by: sons, Phillip M. (Tressa) Clariday of Lenore City; Stephen F. (Sandra) Clariday of Cleveland, David D. (Sara) Clariday of Mt. Juliet; daughter, Marylinn E. Clariday (Paul) Kenny of Mt. Juliet; brothers, Johnny, Charles, Mack, Donald and Lillard Clariday; sisters, Dot Oliver, Peggy Church and Polly Henley; grandchildren, Mary Blankenship, Michele Franco, Mandy Stinnett, Robert F. Clariday, Melissa C. Clariday, Margaret “Margie” Ginn, Nathan A. Clariday, Jamie L. Clariday, Angela K. Comer and  Nicholas D. “Nick” Kenny; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Gateway Missionary Baptist Church, 2514 Lakeland Drive, Nashville, TN with Bro. Jeremy Sisk officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Phillip M. Clariday, Steve F. Clariday, David D. Clariday, Paul Kenny, Robert F. Clariday, Nathan A. Clariday, and Nicholas D. “Nick” Kenny. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Mt. Juliet Lions Club.

Visitation was Monday at the funeral home and  prior to service time Tuesday at the church.

Larry Wayne Cross,  72,  Old Hickory, passed away peacefully at his residence on his birthday, Friday, Feb. 22. 

Pebo was born in Donalsonville, Ga. to the late, Rupert and Mary Lee Barber Cross. He was a 1958 graduate of Seminole County High School. Pebo was a master printer that started at the Donalsonville News and progressed on to several other newspapers and various print shops. He was also a musician playing various venues across the Southeast. After to moving to the Nashville area, he started his own construction business where he was certified in 22 states. Pebo loved fishing, building various projects, cooking and entertaining at his “Swamp Gravy Café”. After retiring, he enjoyed driving across Mexico where he met many wonderful friends and was known as “El Charro Pebo”. Pebo was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Directors staff at Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany, GA.

He is survived by: wife, Melanie Cross; son, Andy (Jill) Cross of Tifton, Ga.; grandchildren, Hunter and Julianna Cross of Tifton, Ga.; brother, Raleigh (Martha) Cross of Monticello, Fla.; many nieces, nepews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was Sunday at Hacienda De La Cruz. Pallbearers will be Louis Moss, Ken Cross, Skip McKee, David Cordell, Burt Bugg, Victor Hornsby, Eddie Jones and Brad Bugg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2543 Ash Crossing Road, Iron City, GA 39859.

Chester Long, 82, Mt. Juliet, died Saturday, Feb. 23. 

Long was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet. He had served as a Deacon, Layman Minister of Music and Youth Minister at several Baptist churches in the Florida area. Mr. Long was the General Manager of the Belk Stores in Central Florida for over 40 years. He was a former member of the Kiawanis Club.

He is survived by: wife of 54 years, Wilda H. Long; children, Charles (Suzanne) Long and Rhetta (Scott) Standifer; grandchildren, Michael Standifer and Olivia and Ryan Long.

 Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Don Dillingham officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. 

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet Building Fund, the Gideons International or the charity of your choice.
