Mildred Johnson, 99, Hendersonville passed away Sept. 9. 

She is preceded in death by parents, John and Vallie Hargis; and husband, Herschel Johnson. 

She is survived by sons, James (Jimmie Sue) Johnson, Carl (Nancy) Johnson and Paul (Sharon) Johnson; grandchildren, Deborah (Berrel) Dugger, Randy (Tina) Johnson, Jeff (Kim) Watkins, Dawn Jordan, Diane (David) Baker, Sherri Downing, Carl (Dawn) Johnson, Jr., Missy Briney and Kim Clark; 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Sellers Crain officiating. Interment followed the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family was Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12 until time of service.

The family wishes to thank Mt. Juliet Healthcare nurses Terri, Brenda and Ashley.

After a lengthy illness, John went home to be with his lord on Sept. 4 at the age of 68.  

He was born on Jan. 14, 1945. He is predeceased by his parents, Katherine Hinnigar and John Herman Rolfes who resided in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also two sisters, Dorothy Fothergill and Loretta Cain.

He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Denise Rolfes of Dunlap and three sons:  John, Jr (Connie), Steven James (Laura), and  Christopher Mark (Brittany).  His  grandchildren are John Thomas Rolfes III, Thomas Ryan Parton, Steven James Rolfes, Abigail Rose Rolfes and Kylee Rolfes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. John had two canine pals that he dearly loved and both Scruffy and MooMoo  will miss him terribly.

John served his country in the army during the Vietnam War  in 1965-66. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways, a trucking company for  38 years (he jokingly would say the T in his name stood for Trucking). He worked in various capacities but mostly as  Linehaul Manager or Assistant Manager which consisted of overseeing  the over-the-road truck drivers).  He worked in Cincinnati, Ohio and was sent to Nashville to set up the department and over see the transfer when the company moved most of their drivers to Nashville in February, 1983.  John worked closely with all the other departments of the company and helped train numerous supervisors.

The family received friends Friday and Saturday at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel

Funeral service were conducted Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Ron Crary officiating

Interment followed in Hamilton Memorial Gardens

Wayne Coats, 86, Mt. Juliet passed away Aug. 27. 

Coats was a church of Christ minister. He was an educator, an author and the former owner of the Mt. Juliet Funeral Home and Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Preceded in death by parents,; sons, James D. “Bud” Coats and William L. “Bill” Coats; and daughter, Jeannie Coats Harwell. 

He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Elaine Wright Coats; son, Robert “Bob” (Jean) Coats; daughter, Gail (Larry) Lane; sister, Delma Frame; and grandchildren, Seth and Chance Coats.

Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 30 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Buddy Neal and Bro. James Boyd officiating. Interment followed the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family was Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30.

Sarah Carmene Hight Eakes, 85, Mt. Juliet born Sept. 14, 1927 and entered into eternal rest on Aug. 28. She attended school in Mt. Juliet and was a member at Center Chapel church of Christ for 65+ years. She worked for L&C/American General for 44+ years. Carmene and her husband of 58 years, Raymond were part owners in Freeman Music & Loan in Nashville.

Carmene was preceded in death by: husband, Raymond Richard Eakes; parents, Grady and Rebecca Hight; sister, Vally D. Lowman; and nieces, Becky Tayes and Kay Hart. 

She is survived by: sister, Lounett Hight Tayes; nieces and nephews, Jeff (Angelia) Tayes, Joey Tayes, Tony Tayes, Lisa (Joe) Low, Faye (Harold) Anderson, and Ann Jackson; great-nieces and great-nephews, Steve Tayes, Scottie Tayes, Latisha (Blake) Hall, Annette Tayes, Whitney Low, Brad Anderson, Grady Anderson, Al Anderson, Kain Hailey, Micah Hailey, Lyric Johnson and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 31 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Darrell Duncan officiating. Interment followed the service at Wilson County Memorial Gardens with John Hiter, Alan Graves, Joe Low, Harold Anderson, Steve Tayes, Scottie Tayes, Blake Hall and Gary Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are: Stan Eakes, Al Anderson, Brad Anderson, Grady Anderson, Mitchell Smith, Ronnie Bond, Buddy Crunk, several other nephews and all the Elders at Center Chapel. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 30 from and Saturday, Aug. 31.

Gary Franklin, Mt. Juliet, passed away Sept. 1 at age 70.  

He was a Senior Division Measurement Technician/Project Manager for Spectra Energy where he worked for 41 years.  Franklin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Hermitage, and a Jaycee in Illinois and Oklahoma. The Memorial Service, conducted by Pastor Keith Encko, is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (1003 Hickory Hill Lane), in Hermitage, with visitation for one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include: wife of 47 years, Darlyne Weden Franklin; children: Gary Dee (Valerie) Franklin II, Jennifer Darlyne Franklin, and Heidi Dawn (Lane) Phelps; and grandchildren: Austin Dee Franklin Bates, Paige Renee’ Trumbo, Dorothy Murphy, Charitie Dawn Franklin, Rheann Danielle Franklin, Ethan Dee Phelps, and Daniel Williams.  

He is preceded in death by father Edd Franklin, mother Marjorie Franklin, and grandchild Garett Dee Franklin.
