A memorial service was held for Fred Wheeler at McKendree Chapel in Hermitage Sunday, Sept. 28 with family visitation up until the service. 

Wheeler is preceded in death by parents Clarence and Frieda Wheeler and sister Beverly (Arthur) Rocker. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Roy Wheeler; children, Mark Wheeler of Seattle, Wash., Kirk Wheeler of Belmont, Calif., Karen Wheeler of Wilmington, N.C. and Eric (Lisa)Wheeler of Mt. Juliet; grandchildren Chris, Sarah, Terry, Madeline, Brenna and Eli Wheeler. 

Fred and Pauline have lived at McKendree Retirement Village in Hermitage since 2000 where he served for a time as President of the Tower Resident’s Council. 

After managing Stanley-Bridges London, England, the family moved to New Bern, N.C. in 1969. Living there for more than three decades, Fred was employed as president and general manager of Stanley Power Tools and oversaw the transition to Bosch Power Tools. 

Wheeler served as elder at First Presbyterian Church of New Bern; President of the Craven Co. Chamber of Commerce, New Bern City School Board Member, President of New Bern Rotary and chairman of Craven County Community College Foundation. 

Education includes a B.S. magna cum laude in 1943 from Syracuse University and MBA in 1947 from Harvard Business School. 

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Corps after serving during World War II on Tinian Island. 

Fred was born in South Amboy, N.J.

Austin Peyton Wilkerson, 17, Mt. Juliet passed away Sept. 23. 

Wilkerson was a senior at Mt. Juliet High School. He was very athletic and could make anyone smile or laugh. A true friend to all who knew him, Wilkerson loved being outdoors. Lake life was a saying he always used. Wilkerson was always swimming, camping or playing basketball. He loved cars and was planning on getting a RX8 or 35OZ when he graduated high school. Wilkerson is a true hero. When he got his license, he checked the organ donation box. With his early passing, he was able to save five lives and will help countless others. His legacy will live on through the donation of life and through smiles and memories of his friends and family. 

Wilkerson is survived by his mother, Brianna Walden (Jeff); father Lee Wilkerson (Angela); sisters, Emily Walden, Alyssa Wilkerson; brothers, Adam Wilkerson, Deavon Walden; grandparents, several cousins, aunts, uncles and an abundance of loving friends and family members. 

Visitation was Saturday, Sept. 27 at The Glade Church. Celebration of Life service was Saturday with Pastor Michael Eubanks officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the senior class of Mt. Juliet High School.

Valerie Louise Wright,  65, Mt. Juliet, died Sept. 26.

Wright was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She loved to travel, enjoyed BINGO, but above all she enjoyed her family – especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late, Leon and Mary Heggie. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty and Theresa and her brother, Lonzo.

She is survived by: husband of 30 years, Jim Wright; daughter, Angela Dakhil; sons, Dwayne (Penny) Wright, Christopher Wright and James (Tracy) Simpson; brothers, Charles (Rosemary) Gentry; sisters, Joyce (Ray) Edwards, Lonna Wright and Sandy Frazier; grandchildren, Cooper Wright, Travis Dakhil, Ryan Dakhil, Alex Dakhil, Ariel Simpson and Tyler Simpson; caregiver and special friend, Judy Sullivan.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 29, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Rev. Chuck Groover officiating. Interment followed at Hollis-Wright Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dwayne Wright, Christopher Wright, Ken Brown, Ray Edwards, John Ham and Larry Lyninger. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Travis, Ryan, Alex, Cooper and Tyler and the Gene Carter Sunday School Class at Victory Baptist Church.

Antwain Harris, 20, Mt. Juliet, passed away Sept. 19. 

He is preceded in death by father, James Harris. 

He is survived by: wife, Hannah Harris; daughter, Cy’leigh Harris; step-mother, Nancy Harris; brother, Jason Harris; sister, Chamika Harris; father- and mother-in-law, Jerry and Gatha Luper; sister-in-law, Haily Luper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet. Interment followed the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family was Tuesday, Sept. 23 until time of service.

Harold Wayne Null,  65, Lebanon, passed away Sept. 19. 

Null was preceded in death by parents; Samuel and Minnie Null; brothers, Sam, Bo, Gene and Richard Null; and sisters, Doris Graham and Joan Burtrum. He is survived by daughter, Natasha Null; sisters, Shirley (John) O’Donnell and Nancy Graham; ex-wife, Pam; nephews, Bobby, William, Tony and Dale Hale, and J. T., David, Tommy and Doug Null; great-nephews, Bobby Allen Hale, Jr. and Christopher Hale; and great-nieces, Angie Hale and Dwanna Hale.
