Eric Lee Raefsky, M.D., 59, Hermitage, died Aug. 5.

Eric was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late, Leonard and Eleanor Potash Raefsky. Dr. Raefsky was a man of many accomplishments, but none greater than his life of service, compassion and love of others.

Eric graduated from M.I.T., where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and went on to graduate first in his class at Temple University School of Medicine. He performed his internship and a fellowship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, followed by a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He was a physician at Tennessee Oncology, PLLC for 25 years, serving on the Board of Directors, and most recently, as Medical Director. Among his many honors are the Frist Humanitarian Award and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year.

Eric gave generously of his time and expertise to many organizations in Nashville and beyond. This incredible soul touched countless people throughout his support for the arts, animal rescue and young people in their pursuit of higher education. Eric loved world travel, dogs, the Phillies, Predators Hockey and the Grateful Dead.

Our hearts are broken but we have so much to celebrate - all of us whose lives were saved by his medical skill and changed by his love. So long and farewell, sweet friend of ours, until we meet again.

Dr. Raefsky was married for 31 years to his best friend and lifelong love, Victoria “Tori” Heil. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy (Howard) Estrin; nephews, Matthew and Scott Estrin; the beloved Raefsky/Yates family; his much-loved “daughter”, Stacy (James) Maciuk; “grandchildren”, Savannah and Mia Maciuk; the entire Heil family; his many four-legged furry friends, the Big Chill Gang and the BFDDs.

A memorial service will be conducted noon Saturday, Aug. 16 at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, One Symphony Place, Nashville, TN.

The family requests No flower please.
