KNOXVILLE - Host Bearden shot a blazing 69 percent from the field to defeat Wilson Central 74-59 Saturday night in the championship game of the Super 16 Tournament.
The Wildcats took an early 9-2 lead, but it was all Bulldogs the rest of the way as Bearden (15-1) won its 15th game in a row -- and claimed its sixth consecutive Super 16 tournament championship.
Bearden’s 6-6 post Brady Smith led the Bulldogs with 23 points. Smith connected on 10-of-14 shots to earn tournament MVP honors.
Wilson Central (12-4) got 24 points from junior wing Jacob Williams, who struggled through a 9-for-25 shooting performance.
Williams earned all-tournament honors for the Wildcats. Casey Brandon, with 13 points, was the only other Wilson Central player to reach double figures.
Wilson Central 71, CAK 65
KNOXVILLE - Wilson Central reached the Super 16 finals with a 71-65 victory over Christian Academy of Knoxville Friday evening.
The Wildcats needed some late-game heroics from Jacob Williams to hold off the Warriors. Williams scored 16 of his game-high 30 points in the fourth quarter to lead Wilson Central’s charge.
Williams hit 8-of-21 shots from the field and made 11-of-12 attempts from the free throw line to spark the Wildcats. He also pullked down 11 rebounds.
Wilson Central also got 13 points from A.J. Franklin. Blake Huffman netted 10 and Jon Rosshirt had nine.
The Wildcats will be back in action Friday, Jan. 4 as District 9AAA rival Gallatin comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. twinbill.
