Mt. Juliet baseball is off to a 5-1 start after going 4-0 in the Scenic City Classic in Chattanooga over the weekend.
After splitting their first two games, beating Siegel 2-1 and losing to LaVergne, 4-1, the Bears rolled right through the Scenic City Classic.
Mt. Juliet beat Northwest Whitfield (Ga.), 2-1, St. Benedict, 8-5, McCallie, 3-0 and Rabun Gap Nacoochie (NC), 6-1.
Mt. Juliet kicks off the Wilson County Invitational Thursday against Brentwood, 7 p.m.
Central started the season 1-3 on their trip to the Gulf Shores Nike Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Wildcats lost to Gulf Shores (Ala.) 7-6, Petal (Ms.), 13-1, beat Forrest County, Ms., 8-0, and lost to Evangelical Christian, 5-3.
The Wildcats kick off the Wilson County Invitational by hosting Macon County Thursday, 7 p.m.
Mt. Juliet softball is off to a 7-4 start after playing in the Commando Classic last week.
Mt. Juliet lost to Riverdale, 8-1, but beat White House 9-2, and LaVergne, 7-4. Following a 3-1 loss to Lincoln County, the Lady Bears beat Blackman, 6-0, Bolton, 4-0 and Maryville 4-1.
Coffee County beat Mt. Juliet, 2-1, but the Lady Bears bounced back with a 4-0 win over Oakland. In the round of 32, Mt. Juliet beat Upperman, 3-2. They lost in the Sweet 16 to Smyrna, 4-1.
Mt. Juliet hosts Portland Friday, 5 p.m.
Wilson Central softball came out on the wrong end of two 2-1 games Wednesday night. The first one was at the hands of Riverdale, and the second game was a 2-1 loss against Dickson County.
In the first game, Central picked up a run in the first inning and kept the lead until the bottom of the third, when the leadoff batter was walked, which was followed by a couple errors by the defense and then the score was 2-1.
Central was led offensively by Allie Bennett’s two hits in two at bats with an RBI. Ashley Eldridge had a double and Lauren Stavinoga also contributed a hit for the Wildcats.
In the nightcap, Wilson Central scored their one run in the third inning in which they had runners on second and third with no outs. Once again, Central held the lead heading into the last inning and gave up two runs again. Sophomore pitcher.
Central split their games at the Commando Classic with a 3-3 record after splitting it’s games Thursday night with a 4-3 win over Dobyns-Bennett followed by a 7-4 loss against LaVergne. Hannah Bodenhorn got the win in the first game, giving up three runs on four hits.
In the second game, LaVergne put up three in the first inning followed by two more in the second, proving to be too much for the Wildcats to overcome. Morgan Powell took the loss for Central, which had a season high five errors, leading to only three earned runs. All four hits came in the fourth inning.
Lauren Stavinoga was 1-for-2 with a 2-run home run Allie Bennett, Morgan Powell, and Hailey Hubbell each hit safely.
Central is now on Orlando, Fla. at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
