Mt. Juliet High’s baseball team will open District 9AAA play Tuesday night with a road trip to Gallatin High. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at the Gallatin Municipal Park.
Coach Jim Carter’s team improved to 8-2 on the season following a couple of wins in the Wilson County Invitational tournament.
On Saturday, Hunter Gilbert drove in Cody Carr with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth as the Golden Bears defeated Clarksville 6-3. Carr added a two-run double in the sixth inning.
Zack Austin (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, going 4.1 innings, giving up only two hits and no runs. Brandon Smith picked up the save by getting the final out in the seventh with the tying run at the plate.
On Friday, Mt. Juliet run-ruled Marshall County, KY. 10-0 as Austin Smith (1-1) pitched a five-inning two-hitter.
Mt. Juliet put the game on ice with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Robby Amity had a big day at the plate with three RBI while Carr and Chris Johnston had two hits each.

Cold weather and a little bit of snow slowed down hitters in the Central/White House game. The only run came in the bottom of the seventh as Junior Austin Fry hit a double to the wall in left center with one out. After a flyout, Junior Braxton McFarlin doubled to left-center to walk-off White House.

Dramatic walk off win for the second consecutive game. Dalton McCorkle started the final frame with an opposite field single followed by a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Jared Williams. After a pop-out, Malone Smith laced a single to right to score pinch runner Colt Russell. His younger brother Cullen Smith then singled sharply to right as well, putting the winning run in scoring position. Hubbuch laced yet another single to right scoring pinch runner Ben Spradley just ahead of a strong throw to move WC to 3-0 in the WCIT.

Central softball gets wins at Disney
This past week Wilson Central’s softball team competed at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The Lady Wildcats finished the week 4-1. Central’s overall record now stands at 7-4 heading into Wednesday’s matchup with district rival Mount Juliet.

Hubbell hit a double that scored two runs. Tichenor had an RBI double. Powell was on base three of four times and pitched all seven innings, allowing 13 hits, seven runs (three earned), while striking out eight batters.

Bodenhorn was 2-for-2 scoring a run and hitting an RBI double Central stole six bases this game without getting caught for their season high.
