Lady Bears get 2 wins, Bears finish runner-up PDF Print E-mail

The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears pulled away from a tough Columbia team in the second half, winning 59-43 at the Lebanon Thanksgiving Classic. 

Columbia’s Makayla Timmons hit a three-pointer at the first quarter buzzer to pull the Lady Lions within 14-12. 

Sally McCabe got into some foul trouble in the second quarter, and Columbia was able to keep the game close. Mt. Juliet had led 22-15, but it was down to 22-21 at the break. 

Columbia took the lead in the third at 24-23, but Mt. Juliet responded with a 20-6 run for the rest of the quarter. At the end of the third, the Lady Bears led 42-29. 

McCabe led the way for the Lady Bears with 26 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Rae DeGray had 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Ronjanae DeGray had 10 points and seven rebounds. Columbia’s Keiana Gilbert led all scorers with 26. 

Mt. Juliet picked up another win Saturday against Stewarts Creek, 79-39. 

The Lady Bears had no trouble from the opening tip, as they were up 24-8 at the end of the first, and 47-15 at the half. 

McCabe and Rae DeGray had big games again, as McCabe had 26 and DeGray had 17.

The Mt. Juliet boys finished runner up at the LaVergne Thanksgiving Classic Saturday. 

After two wins Friday against Ravenwood and LaVergne, the Bears fell in the finals to Brentwood. 

Mt. Juliet opened with a 52-41 win over Ravenwood Friday morning. After trailing 22-21 at the half, the Bears outscored Ravenwood 31-19 in the second half. 

John Mark Bell led the way with 13. Daniel Schroder and James Womack both had 12. 

Nolan Chowbay had a big game Friday night, as he scored 22 in a 62-59 win over LaVergne. Reagan Johnson added 13 and Womack 12. 

Johnson poured in 25 points in the final against Brentwood, but the Bears came up short, 65-52. Chowbay finished with 15.
