The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears had no trouble with Gallatin on Senior Night in a 10-0 run-ruled game.
The Lady Bears scored early and often, and pitcher Savannah Sanders only allowed one hit in the five inning game.
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Mt. Juliet went to work. Ashton Stowe was hit by a pitch and Kelsie Craighead moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Emily Bombard got the first run across with a RBI single, and freshman Riley Walker got on base with a walk. Shelby Woodard brought them both home with a 2-RBI double, and Savanna Oliver plated another with a RBI triple.
Gallatin wasn’t able to get a baserunner again in the top of the second, and the Lady Bears were able to push the lead out to 8-0 by the end of the inning.
Stowe had a bunt single to start the inning, and moved to second on an error. Craighead drove her in with a RBI triple, and Bombard got her second RBI single. Olvier picked up her second RBI wtih a single, and Kristen Hammer got an RBI with a single of her own.
Sanders put Gallatin down in order again in the third, and the Lady Bears got their final two runs in the inning. Stowe started things with a double, and Craighead got her second RBI triple of the game. Bombard drove her in with a groundout to short to round out the scoring.
Sanders got the win, striking out eight in five innings pitched.
Mt. Juliet will host Hendersonville Wednesday to kick off the District 9-AAA Tournament. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Commandoes in their last meeting, 12-2.
Central closes regular season with a win
Wilson Central Softball finished its regular season Thursday night with a trip to Lebanon, beating the Lady Devils 3-1.
Morgan Powell pitched for Central, limiting Lebanon to three hits and one unearned run while striking out six batters. The Lady Wildcats had runners on base in every inning, but only managed to score three runs on 14 hits in the game.
Central scored in the fourth inning when Claire Smith walked, went to second on a hit by Karlie Odum before Keily Preston moved her over to third. A ground ball by Kayla Varner scored Smith from third base, making the score 1-0. The Lady Wildcats were back at it in the sixth inning when Smith once again led off the inning with a walk, before another Odum hit moved her to second. Smith then stole third before scoring on another ground ball by Varner. Brittany Wiseman singled to score Kelsey Tomlin to increase the lead to 3-0.
Lebanon scored their run in the bottom of the seventh when Aubuchon doubled to right with two outs. Nagelhout reached base on an error that scored Aubuchon from second before Powell struck out Kasey Squires for the final out of the game.
Central will host Portland in the first round of the District 9-AAA Tournament Wednesday.
