MJ Lacrosse Club start season today PDF Print E-mail

The 2013 Mt. Juliet Lacrosse Club season kicks off today, as they travel to Hendersonville. 

The team was supposed to get the season started on Feb. 26, but the game was rained out. Below is a schedule of the rest of their games. All home games are played at Mundy Park. 

March 6, Mt. Juliet at Hendersonville, 5 p.m.

April 2, Centennial at Mt. Juliet, 6 p.m.

April 6, Signal Mountain at Mt. Juliet, 1 p.m.

April 6, Soddy Daisy at Mt. Juliet, 5 p.m.

April 9, Hendersonville at Mt. Juliet, 6 p.m.

April 11, Mt. Juliet at Hume-Fogg, 5:30 p.m.

April 13, Clarksville at Mt. Juliet, 1 p.m.

April 25, Hume-Fogg at Mt. Juliet, 5 p.m.

May 4, Mt. Juliet at Clarksville, 2 p.m.

Lady Bears in region finals, Wildcats still alive PDF Print E-mail

The Lady Bears beat West Creek and Lebanon in the first two rounds of regionals Friday and Monday to earn a spot in the finals. 

The Lady Bears kicked things off Friday with a 58-21 win over West Creek. 

As usual, the Lady Bears went to the paint repeatedly, finding Sally McCabe and Ronjanae DeGray. 

McCabe finished with 24 points and seven rebounds, and DeGray added 14. 

Monday, the Lady Bears beat Lebanon for the third time this season, ending the Devilettes season with a 43-36 win. 

McCabe finished the game with 14 points and DeGray had 13. 

Mt. Juliet will play Beech Wednesday in the region finals at Beech. Both teams will move on to sectionals whatever the outcome is. 

On Saturday, the Bears’ season came to an end to the hands of Dickson County in a 73-65 loss. 

Dickson County sprinted out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter, and the Bears were never able to overcome the deficit. 

Nolan Chowbay finished with 22 points. Reagan Johnson had 17 and James Womack had 10. 

Central keeps winning

The Central boys were at home Saturday as they dismantled Rossview, 74-46. 

Central outscored Rossview 20-2 in the first, and the lead had ballooned to 48-13 by the break. 

Ben Palmer led the way with 15 points. Jacob Williams had 14. Blake Huffman had 12, and Preston Reed finished with 11. 

Central played Hendersonville at Beech for a spot in the region championship. The game was played after press time.

The Mt. Juliet High School swim team wrapped up a successful 12th season recently. 

Part of that was thanks to sophomore Carrie Johnson who became the first state champion at Mt. Juliet High School with a win in the 100-meter fly. She is  a 2-year All American Athlete in the 100 Fly and was named as Academic All American for 2013. She holds a near perfect GPA and has five school record times. She was named to the MTHSSA All-Region Team in 2012 and named the MTHSSA Female Swimmer of the Year in 2013.

Cody Carr, Deontre Nealous and Caleb Hopkins signed football scholarships with Cumberland University Friday. 

The three will join teammate Braiden Eady who signed with Cumberland last week. 

Carr was excited that the Cumberland team has several former Bears on the roster. 

“I get another chance to play football with my friends,” said Carr. 

Carr said that he is expecting Cumberland to help him keep getting better and prepare him for the next level. 

Hopkins liked that Cumberland was close to home, and feels that Mt. Juliet helped him improve not only on the field, but off. 

“I became a better man,” said Hopkins about his years playing for the Bears. 

Nealous said he was excited about playing with his teammates again, and only had one expectation of his time at Cumberland. 

“Success,” said Nealous.

The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears captured another District Tournament title with a 43-28 victory over Beech Monday. 

Ronjanae DeGray finished with 16 points and  picked up the Tournament MVP. 

Sally McCabe added 13 points and Savannah Sanders finished with 11. Both made the All-Tournament team. 

Mt. Juliet kicked off the tournament with a 53-22 win over Portland. 

DeGray led the way with 21 points and McCabe added 18. 

Saturday, the Lady Bears held off a late charging Station Camp team, 56-52. 

DeGray led the Lady Bears with 24 points, and McCabe added 14.

The Lady Bears will face West Creek at home Friday to open the Region Tournament. Tip off is 7 p.m.

The Central girls were eliminated in the first round by 71-57. 

Autumn Hopkins led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points. Kendall Spray had 12. The Lady Wildcats finished the season 12-13, and 8-6 in district play. 

Central makes it to the finals

The Central Wildcats avenged two regular season losses to Mt. Juliet by beating the Bears in the semifinals Saturday, 60-55. 

Jacob Williams led Central to the win with 17 points. Blake Huffman had 15 and Ben Palmer finished with 10. 

Thomas Sharpe led the Bears with 20 points, 18 of it coming on six, three pointers. Hunter Gilbert ended with 11 points. 

Central started the tournament with a 62-46 win over Gallatin. 

They were led by Williams’ 19 points. Palmer had 17 and Matthew Hall added 11. 

Mt. Juliet got 29 points from Reagan Johnson in the tournament opener to eliminate Beech, 65-60. 

Sharpe added 16 and Nolan Chowbay finished with 10 points. 

Central played Station Camp Tuesday in the finals. Mt. Juliet faced off with Hendersonville in the third place game. Both games were played after press time.
