Mt. Juliet Elementary raises over $300 for breast cancer research

Wilson County 4-H teams see success at state

The State 4-H Poultry Judging contest was recently held on Oct. 6 in Knoxville. Wilson County had two teams in the competition and both did extremely well placing second and third overall. The team comprised of Melissa Bachman, Colin Warren, Ben Buck, and Jacob Harrison finished in second place with Melissa Bachman as the fourth highest scoring individual overall and first in production categories. The team comprised of Quinton Wilson, Kayla Graf, Noah Curtis, and Justin Winters placed third in the competition. As a reminder, University of Tennessee Extension provides programs in agriculture and natural resources, 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, and resource development with University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture and county governments cooperating. UT Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. The contest covers several areas of the poultry industry including: grading candled eggs, grading broken-out eggs, grading exterior eggs, grading whole carcasses, parts identification, evaluating live hens, and presenting oral reasons defending their appraisal of production classes.  The teams were coached by Extension Agent Johnny Barnes and volunteer leader Matthew Farris. ~Photo submitted

Wilson Central band earns multiple trophies recently

The Wilson Central High School Marching Wildcats came home from the Hickman County Marching Classic with multiple trophies Saturday, Sept. 22. The band came in second in their division in a very competitive field.  The percussion performance was especially lauded, as they came in not only first in their division, but also had the top score of all 17 percussion units. Color guard and drum majors Meghan Routh and Victoria Wright also emerged as the top drum majors in the division. The band earned straight superior ratings at the contest. The 105 member band, under the direction of Stacy Jernigan and Martin McFarlane, will perform again this Saturday at the Lebanon High School Marching Invitational and then at the Vanderbilt contest. ~Photo submitted

MJHS student rings bell on Constitution Day

Laura Bush, President of the Tennessee Society Children of the American Revolution rings a replica of the Liberty Bell at the TN State Capitol on Sunday Sept. 23. The TN Daughters of the American Revolution hosted their 11th Annual Constitution Day Bell Ringing to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Laura is a senior at Mt. WWMS, West break ground on new additions

West Wilson Middle School and West Elementary broke ground Tuesday on their new additions to the school.  Director of Schools Mike Davis spoke at the groundbreakings of the importance of the additions to the schools.
