Cook’s Fest
Cook’s United Methodist Church invites the community to the 8th annual Cook’s Fest on Saturday, September 4. The proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will support the Charis Health Center in Mt. Juliet. Charis, a faith-based organization, offers affordable primary health care to working uninsured residents of Wilson County. An all-you-can eat lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on September 4 at the church. On the menu is pulled pork, baked beans, cole slaw, potato and corn salads, dessert and drink, all for $10 for adults. Ribs and pulled pork for carry-out may be preordered by calling the church office at 449-2573 before September 1. A four-five pound slab of ribs sells for $25 while a pound of pulled pork can be purchased for $7.50. The church will also make deliveries of meals within five miles of the church. MJPD sobriety checkpoint
The Mt. Juliet Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints in the Lebanon Road, Mt. Juliet Road, West Division and Belinda Parkway areas on Saturday, September 4, 2010 with the hopes of deterring people from driving drunk. Please, if you are going to drink, have a designated driver, call a friend, or have someone get you a cab. The life you save may be a member of your family.
Langford Farms Labor Day Kids Triathlon
Langford Farms Club will be holding the 4th Annual Labor Day Kids Triathlon on Saturday, September 4, at 8:00 a.m. Ages 6 – 11 will swim 100 meters, bike 3.1 miles, and run ½ mile. Ages 12-15 will swim 200 meters, bike 6.2 miles and run one mile. The entry fee is $20.00 until August 23 and will increase to $25.00 after August 23. There will be no race day registrations. Republican Women meet
Republican Women of Wilson County will not meet on the first Monday of the month in September. The Chop House is closed because of Labor Day, Sept. 6. Republican Gubernatorial Nominee Bill Haslam will make a special stop in Wilson County to speak at the next meeting of Republican Women of Wilson County on Monday, September 13, at a special time. Members are requested to arrive at the Castle Heights Chop House, located at 705 Cadet Ct. in Lebanon EARLY - between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Bill Haslam will speak between 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The regular business meeting and lunch will take place after this special event. GOP Statesman’s Dinner
The Wilson County Republican Party will hold a celebration honoring its slate of candidates in the November elections at its annual Statesman’s Dinner on Friday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ward Ag Center in Lebanon. The WCRP invites everyone to come out in support of the candidates and be entertained by comedian and political satirist Scott Dunn. Tickets are $25 for the dinner and show. Table sponsorships are also available and Table Sponsors will be recognized during the event. Girl Scouts informational meetings
Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee will hold informational membership meetings at the Mt. Juliet Library on September 11 and September 18 at 9:30 a.m. Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee is the largest girl-serving organization in the world. Troops provide girls with opportunities for social interaction and new experiences. Under the guidance of trained, adult role models, girls work toward individual and group goals and develop positive values. If a troop is not available a new troop must be formed. Only adult volunteers can make this happen for girls. For more information call 453-2473.

7th Annual Patriot Day event
The seventh annual Patriot Day - Community Spirit Event, will take place on
Saturday, September 11, 2010, in Mt. Juliet. The event was founded by Mayor Linda Elam in 2004 to foster community spirit and in remembrance of 9/11.
Families, businesses, service clubs, schools and churches are invited to participate.

Post Event Party: All volunteers will go to Charlie Daniel’s Park after projects are completed for a cookout sponsored by Publix and Mt. Juliet restaurants and served by New Heart Christian Church and Pastor Caryl Strange. Patriotic entertainment will take place on the amphitheatre stage. Marlynda Augelli will lead patriotic art programs for kids including: tie dye, print making and creating a graffiti banner.
This year’s projects include:
Site One: Mt. Juliet Health Care Center - Wheel Chair Wash. Everyone loves this fun project! Just like a car wash, the wheel chairs are lined up for a wash, rinse and dry and a balloon is tied to the sparkling chair at the end. The residents enjoy watching the event and look forward to this day.
Site Two: - The Senior Center – Painting, maintenance, cleaning projects, repairs and some yard work will help beautify the senior center.
Site Three: Charlie Daniel’s Park – Volunteers will stain the wooden ship and treasure chest. (A climb and slide adventure structure for young children located at the south end of park near the gazebo).
Site Four: Animal Control Center – Landscaping, interaction with our furry friends waiting to be adopted and general care of their temporary homes.
Site Five: Each year, a Mt. Juliet school gets a brand new landscaping compliments of Tom Needham nursery. This year’s school is Elzie Patton Elementary School on 1003 Woodridge Place. Come help plant and beautify the school. Parents, families, community members are encouraged to come and show school pride.
A food drive box will be placed at each site two weeks prior to the event to benefit the Mt. Juliet Help Center.
The community is invited to participate in any of the following ways: sponsor a site @ $500. (deadline for signage 9/1); signage with your company’s name will be posted at each site on the day of the event; volunteer: individuals, companies, businesses, service clubs, youth groups, schools, organizations, churches, and families are invited to participate. Free T-shirts for volunteers (while supplies last); donate in-kind: companies may donate an in-kind gift of equipment or supplies for any of the sites.
You can make a difference in our community in remembrance of 9/11.

Wilson Vols tryouts
The well-known Mt. Juliet based Wilson Vols Baseball Club will be hosting tryouts for a new 7U baseball team to begin play in spring, 2011. Tryouts are scheduled for Sunday, September 12 at 2 p.m.. The Wilson Vols Baseball Club is known for developing young players by teaching the skills necessary to excel once they reach middle school and high school level. WilsonDemocratic Women meet
Wilson County Democratic Women will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, at Wilson County Democrat Head Quarters, 228 W. Main Street, Lebanon (behind Cox’s Gifts). Members are asked to bring instant potatoes for the Mt. Juliet Help Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.

City Yard Sale
The City of Mt. Juliet will be hosting its annual fall yard sale on September 18. This event will take place at Charlie Daniels Park beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting through 2 p.m. Booths will cost $20.00 and must be pre registered at the Mt. Hillcrest Baptist, located at 621 Hartsville Pike in Lebanon, is hosting a Simulcast of Beth Moore’s Living Proof Live Event from Chicago on Saturday, September 18. Beth is a dynamic ladies conference speaker and has authored a variety of Bible studies for Lifeway. Her topics are designed for women of all ages are guaranteed to minister to those emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of your life.
