Cumberland University President, Dr. Paul Stumb, attended the Mt. Juliet Board of Commission meeting Monday night, September 12th, to show his appreciation for the community’s constant support for the university.
“I want to thank the city council for Mt. Juliet for all that you do in support of Cumberland University,” said President Stumb.
Stumb continued, “Mayor Hagerty has a daughter that recently graduated from Cumberland University. We are proud of that and I know that he is proud of that also.”
“City Manager, Kenny Martin, has been so supportive of us through the years . Thank you for your support as well.”
The Cumberland President went on to mention some interesting facts about the university that might interest the citizens of Mt. Juliet.
“Cumberland is experiencing record enrollment this year,” said Stumb.
“Over 2000 students have enrolled in the private University in Lebanon. The school is up 30%, year over year, for attendance. The campus is out of parking places and the resident halls are full,” said the humbled President. “We are very fortunate for the success of our University.”
Stumb elaborated on the breakdown of Mt. Juliet students attending the university for the 2016-2017 school year.
“An outside third party recorded 139 students from Mt. Juliet are attending Cumberland University this school year. That total number includes 37 returning students and 102 new students from Mt. Juliet High School and Mt. Juliet Christian Academy,” said Stumb.
Mayor Hagerty commented, “That’s not even including Wilson Central High School. There are even more Mt. Juliet residents that attend Wilson Central that are accounted for attending the school.”
Stumb voiced his appreciation for the city of Mt. Juliet and it’s support, “I’m here tonight to recognize and say that we couldn’t do what we do without the support from the city of Mt. Juliet.”
Stumb continued, “I recognize that we couldn’t do what we do without the support of the city of Mt. Juliet and I’m just here tonight to thank you all for entrusting us with your students after they finish high school and for the support that you all give us. Thank you so much.”
“While my daughter was attending Cumberland, I got to know many of the staff members and they are top shelf. They picked the right guy to lead the university at Cumberland. We are very proud of you all,” concluded Mayor Hagerty.
