A fugitive from justice is in custody after leading officers on pursuit in a stolen car.
The pursuit began at Sally Beauty Supply, located at 300 Pleasant Grove Rd., while officers investigated a report about two suspicious men sitting in a car around 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the car was stolen and attempted to contact the occupants. The driver sped away, and officers gave chase.
Officers pursued the stolen car into Hermitage, back into Mt. Juliet, and to Lebanon. The driver, identified as 50-year-old Javier Estesvez of Kentucky, was taken into custody after he lost control of the car, causing it to go into a field.
During the pursuit, Estesvez struck three other motorists on the roadway. One motorist was struck from behind and pushed out of the way by the suspect’s car, and they were treated for minor injuries.
During the pursuit, officers deployed spike systems in an attempt to stop Estesvez, but he dodged the spikes. The second occupant of the car exited the car during the pursuit shortly after it began, and they were not charged. Further investigation revealed that Estesvez was wanted out of Kentucky for a felony theft charge, the car was stolen out of Kentucky, and an open container of alcohol was in the car.
Detectives continue to investigate the suspicious activity to determine what exactly Estesvez’s purpose was in the community, where he has no obvious connections. He was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail under a $26,000 bond, charged with Aggravated Kidnapping, Evading Arrest, Theft of Property, Driving Under the Influence, Criminal Impersonation, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, Reckless Driving, 3 Counts of Reckless Endangerment, Duty to Give Information & Render Aid, and 2 Counts of Failure to Give Immediate Notice on an Accident.
