Martin Goes To Convention To Draw New Business to Mt. Juliet

Interim City Manager Kenny Martin made the annual trip to Las Vegas, Nev. last week to visit RECon, a convention that has representatives from businesses and developers all over the United States.
The trip is key to getting contact information and setting up meetings with businesses that could come to Mt. Juliet in the future.

“A lot of these, the only way you can get a contact is to go,” said Martin.
He made the trip with Lebanon Mayor Philip Craighead, Watertown Mayor Mike Jennings, Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto and JECDB’s Tammy Stokes.
This is the seventh year that Martin has attended the event, which has led to contacts like Cheddar’s and White Castle, which will be opening in the next couple of months. Sometimes the process can take up to seven years from first contact to the opening of the store, like in White Castle’s case.
Martin said he had several meetings, which included places like Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Denny’s Genghis Grill and Bojangles. Bojangles and Jimmy John’s contacted him Thursday, a day after he returned from the trip.
“If you are at that convention, they know you mean business,” said Martin.
