MJCA Saints top Donelson Christian Academy in season opener

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy’s middle-school football team opened their season Tuesday night, August 15, at Donelson Christian Academy with a win over the Wildcats.

The Saints rolled to a 26-6 win having led the entire game.

MJCA Quarterback Shawn Link was 6 of 8 for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He found receiver Eli Wilson on both touchdowns, the first of which covered 40 yards. Link also rushed for 81 yards on 11 attempts, including two rushing touchdowns. Wilson added another 72 yards rushing on three attempts.

DCA made a defensive stand in the third quarter, holding the Saints scoreless, but the Saints added a touchdown in the fourth. The Wildcats finally found the end zone on the last play of the game on a run from scrimmage that covered 50 yards.

Defensive standouts for the Saints included Free Safety Braxton Lamberth, who had the game’s only interception and tacked on 17 yards after the pick. Defensive End Levi Irby finished with four tackles and an assist to lead the Saints. Mt. Juliet plays their home opener against Goodpasture next Thursday night, August 24, at 6:30 p.m. Donelson Christian Academy had Holy Rosary Academy Tuesday, August 22.
