Planet Playground at Charlie Daniels getting improvements

Planet Playground is getting a makeover, and the first part is done.

The staff at the Parks and Recreation Department took down old equipment and put up brand new equipment for children to use.

“It had fallen into such disrepair,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jay Cameli. The new equipment came from a $50,000 grant, the first the Parks and Recreation Department had ever received. It has been a 2-year process. “We did all the demo to save money,” said Cameli of him and his staff at the Parks and Recreation Department. The contractor came and put the equipment up, and the project was finished two days earlier than expected on Thursday. The contractor was the same that built the toddler playground.

“They did a heck of a job” said Cameli of his staff. There is a new swingset, and some pipe and play equipment that helps with handeye coordination.

Next week, the overhead lines will be buried at the park to help with the overall look of the park, but also for safety. Planet Playground will be closed June 18-27 to put down new footing.
