Providence Marketplace and South Mt. Juliet communities experience power outage
Providence Marketplace and South Mt. Juliet communities went dark on Sunday afternoon after an unpredicted power outage occurred. The outage was due to a Middle Tennessee Electric (MTEMC) substation going down.
The substation going down for hours on a busy, sunny Sunday afternoon caused retailers in Providence Marketplace to lose a lot of sales opportunities due to the power shortage.
Best Buy was one of the retailers that had a packed store full of customers Sunday afternoon. Managers of the retail chain were concerned of the length of the power outage due to large sales goals, being the first day of the official week of the holiday season.
Mangers at different Providence store locations, such as Best Buy and Target, were contacted and stated that they experienced a large loss of money in sales opportunities due to the outage and will hopefully make it up later this week on Black Friday.
Mt. Juliet Police officers responded to the power surge in the highly populated shopping area and were quick to gain control at the powerless traffic signals keeping traffic flowing.
Middle Tennessee Electric company apologized for the inconvenience of the power outage and thanked the community of Mt. Juliet for being patient while the issue was fixed.
