Connor Sugg broke a state record, and Mt. Juliet captured its seventh straight district title Wednesday in a 4-1 victory over Station Camp.
Sugg secured his 15th save of the season, which broke the state record.
Mt. Juliet got on the board first. Robbie Amity started things off with a double down the line, after a sacrifice bunt, Cody Carr’s groundout to short brought Amity in for the first run.
In the fourth, Forrest Goodwin reached on a bunt single, and Caleb Chowbay double to center. Mason Barber brought both of them in with a 2-RBI double, to push the lead out to 3-0.
In the fifth, Hunter Gilbert singled to right, and Zach Tompkins drove him in with another single to right.
That 4-0 lead held until the top of the seventh when a fielder’s choice brought in a run for Station Camp. However, Sugg shut the door to break the record, and give the Bears the district title.
Josh Smith went 6.1 innings for the win.
