Wilson Central softball punched their second straight ticket to state over the weekend, winning the region and substate games.
Central knocked off Mt. Juliet Wednesday in the Region Championship, 2-0. It was the third straight 2-0 win for Wilson Central over the rival Lady Bears.
The Lady Wildcats first jumped into the scoring column after scoring on an error in the bottom of the first inning following an errant throw in the infield by the Lady Bears.
Wilson Central would score the final run of the game when Morgan Powell hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.
Mt. Juliet had a chance to answer the Wildcats scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning but could not capitalize after loading up the bases.
Central’s Morgan Powell pitched a scoreless five innings with four strikeouts for the Wildcats before being relieved by senior Hannah Bodenhorn, who closed out the game for the Wildcats.
Mt. Juliet’s Savannah Sanders pitched the entire game for the Lady Bears giving up only one earned run and ending with three strikeouts.
Central had no trouble in the sectional game against Ravenwood, winning 9-2.
Morgan Powell led the way for the Lady Wildcats, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. She was a home run short of the cycle, notching a single, double and triple.
Katie Eakes was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Brooke Pfefferle and Morgan Stokes each had one RBI.
Wilson Central started the Spring Fling Championships Tuesday against Collierville. That game completed after press time. That game determined what time the Lady Wildcats will play Wednesday. Check www.tssaa.org for schedule information.
